Where are you choosing to put your focus?

I was transfixed by the 2020 Olympics.  I can’t take my eyes off these wonderful specimens, these select few people who are capable of amazing feats. What is it about these athletes that makes our hair stand on end, while we scream at the TV and jump up and down?

Could it be that these people not only symbolize what is possible when we put in ludicrous amounts of effort and determination, but also what can happen when you believe you have something great?  When you believe you can go further, go faster or be stronger than you, or anyone else, has been before?

Yes, we are talking about people who are almost superhuman, and the pressure and impact on mental health is very real. However, these Olympians share a mindset we could all benefit from.

You can bet that before the 100m race they are telling themselves how great they are, how powerful and strong they are.  They are prepping. What might be possible for you if you mentally prepared for tough situations and focused on embodying all of your strengths and capabilities?

You can count on it that they are coaching themselves throughout their swim or run, focusing on what is possible instead of what might go wrong.  How could your life be different if you asked yourself “What is possible for me?” more often?

Where is your focus most of the time?  Is it on “What could go wrong?” or “They’ll find out I’m not up to it”?

Is your focus even on you? Or are you instead focusing on what others are doing or achieving?

How would you benefit from stepping out of fear and doubt, and into imagining a different future for yourself?

What would be possible for you if you had less of “I’m not very good at this” and more of “I am capable of great things”? Instead of what might go wrong, what could go right?

What would having trust in yourself give you? Only you get to find out.
